Historical Background

The Congolese Youth Union Global (CYUG) was born from the resilience and determination of young Congolese refugees displaced by years of tribal conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The vision of uniting and empowering youth emerged when Samuel Rushimisha, alongside his peers, sought to create a platform for reconciliation, peace, and leadership. Hosted in Kenya, they turned adversity into opportunity, finding strength in their shared experiences and rich cultural heritage.

Despite facing challenges, including detention while advocating for peace, the founding members remained steadfast in their mission to restore hope and foster unity. Mentorship from renowned Africanist and historian Prof. PLO Lumumba played a pivotal role, guiding the team in understanding the roots of their homeland’s conflicts and inspiring them to champion reconciliation. Through collaborative efforts, CYUG became a beacon of hope, aiming to rebuild Congo's social fabric and empower a generation of responsible leaders committed to peace, patriotism, and development.
